Mt Polley Spins and Delays begin

The disaster at the Mount Polley mine owned by Imperial Minerals (TSE: III) is, in my opinion disgusting.

I'm pretty sure that the sensationalist reporting  (escalating estimates) if they get on the right track may be closer to the truth than we think. Certainly the estimates by the government, who I allege have a huge stake in what happened, and the mine are lowball.

The spin I want to talk about is the condition of the water.

The minister promised a thorough investigation that will look at both the actions of the provincial government and the company. (watch for the delays on this one)

How will the government get at the truth? Premier Christy Clark has promised a vigorous investigation — but not a public inquiry. And that's a problem because there are bound to be lawsuits. And we all know from the BC Rail trial (whitewash) that the BC Liberals' standard response will be "we can't comment because it's before the courts".

Now, when the company CEO said he would drink the water, then with a blink as if to recognize the enormity of what he said, added "once the paticles settled", made me laugh so hard I almost choked.

Following is a list of what's in the tailings:

  • Phosphorus – 41,640 tonnes
  • Manganese – 20,988 tonnes
  • Copper – 18,413 tonnes
  • Vanadium – 5,047 tonnes
  • Zinc – 2,169 tonnes
  • Cobalt – 475 tonnes
  • Nickel – 326 tonnes
  • Antimony – 14 tonnes
  • Arsenic – 406,122 kg
  • Lead – 177,041 kg
  • Selenium – 46,136 kg
  • Cadmium – 6,487 kg
  • Mercury – 3,114 kg
It's my understanding the selenium is what is most harmful to the fish.

That was the beginning.

Then, in the absence of premier photo-op, and her local MLA (who it is said has only visited the area once), up steps the person I allege is the master of spin in the present sitting government. Bill Bennett.

The guy is masterful. First he tells the locals what they want to hear. Things like this are bad. This is disasterous. They're going to pay. There are bonds for this. There is a contingency.. We're going to find out what happened. blah, blah, blah.

All the time this crap is being spewed there are aerial photos of tailings running out through the breach and only one piece of equipment sitting immobile on the dyke. Nothing is being done to seal the breach.

Finally we hear that the government has given directives. That was late Thursday. Four days after the breach. So if it took that long for the government to wake up it should be no surprise that the company says it will take more than a year to repair the dyke. That would be the same dyke that the company ignored warnings for about four years that was a disaster waiting to happen. One can only wonder if these ignored warnings were caused by two levels of government changing the rules to favor industry.

Speaking of governments, it is worthy to note that the only level to step up immediately was the Cariboo Regional District (CRD). They issued a do not use edict for the water. Almost immediately while other levels were doing nothing but posing for the cameras.

Now we come to the water. Why is everyone saying the tests are within acceptable parameters? Then adding notes to the tests? And by the way, why is the surface water being tested? The chemicals are on the bottom. And whatever is on the bottom will eventually find its way into the aquifer.Once that happens the wells won't be worth shit.

And now we have this from the Minister apparently trying to reduce the scope of the cleanup:

“What we need to do is test those sediments to determine whether it’s better environmentally to leave them there or to try to collect them and get them out of the creek bed and get them out of the creek mouth in Quesnel Lake,” Bennett said. “Before you start dredging lake bottoms and trying to clean up the bottom of a creek bed to get the sand out, you’ve got to determine what the risk is first, and that’s the phase that we’re in right now.”

Notice they don't say which risk they are talking about. I submit it's the financial risk. So in my opinion the smoke and mirrors are now gearing up to full force.

It's Time Seniors Got Off Their Butts And Fought Back

 Time we paid attention!

OAS & CPP - an entitlement? GREY POWER-- QUIET NO MORE

ONE REALLY BAD THING IS THAT A GREAT MANY SENIORS HAVE NO INTERNET TO RECEIVE
EMAILS LIKE THIS ONE, SO SNAIL MAIL AND TELEPHONE ARE ALSO NEEDED...

On top of all this stuff that you can read below I would like to state that I was NOT OPPOSED to the Canadian Government donating as a gift a blanket to Prince George BUT I do have a hard time understanding the government donating $100,000. to a children's charity in England while people in High River and seniors are struggling to stay a float. Doesn't make sense to me. Where  did the government come up with this money and WHY.

GREY POWER-- QUIET NO MORE -- POLITICIANS PAY ATTENTION!

The Harper government is saying that at this moment
they cannot afford to make changes to the CPP.

They are also saying that seniors will have to start paying for
meds and health care after age 65 because of the strain on the
system.

I think that it is time that we let him know what we think ........

CANADA: a country where we have:

…. homeless without shelter,
…. children going to bed hungry,
…. hospitals being closed,
…. average income families who can't afford dental care,
…. elderly going without 'needed' meds and having to travel
100's of miles for medical care with no reimbursement of cost,
…. vehicles we can't afford gas for,
…. lack of affordable housing,
…. mentally ill without treatment, etc.,etc.

YET....

They have a 'Benefit' for the people of Haiti, ships and planes
lining up with food, water, tents, clothes, bedding, doctors, and
medical supplies.

What’s wrong with us??? ……………. WAKE UP CANADA !!!!

Someone please tell me what the is wrong with all the people
that run this country!

We're "broke" & can't help our own Seniors, Veterans, Orphans,
Homeless, etc. …… yet we spent 1.2 billions of dollars for G-20
events!

In the last few months we have provided aid to Haiti , Chile ,
and Turkey , as well as Khazakistan , Pakistan and all the others -
literally, BILLIONS of OUR dollars!!

Imagine if the GOVERNMENT gave 'US' the same support they give
to other countries.

Our retired seniors living on a 'fixed income' receive no aid
nor do they get any breaks while our government and religious
organizations pour hundreds of millions of dollars and tons of food
into Foreign Countries!

They call Old Age Security and Healthcare an entitlement even
though most of us have been paying for it all our working lives and
now when IT'S time for us to collect, the government is running out
of money ?
Why did the government borrow from these programs in the first
place?

Entitlement ? I paid cash for my Old Age Security and CPP!!!!

Just because they borrowed money from these programs, doesn't
make my benefits some kind of charity or handout!

Gold plated MP pensions and Civil Service Government benefits,
a.k.a. free healthcare, outrageous retirement packages, 67 paid
holidays, 20 weeks paid vacation, unlimited paid sick days --- now
that's welfare, and they have the nerve to call me a 'greedy
senior' and my retirement, an entitlement.

Sad isn't it?

Lets hope it creates awareness!

DO YOUR PART!

Things will only change when this kind of email translates
into voting results at the polls.

As of today, seniors out number ANY OTHER type of voter even
by race, religion, or age group.

WHEN ARE SENIORS going wake up and understand WE have the
POWER to shape legislation?

All WE need is the will power to do so!

FORWARD THIS TO EVERYBODY !!! 99% of people won't have the
guts to forward this. I'm one of the 1% -- I Just Did.

Is Secession Our Next Step in BC?

I have lived in BC most of my life. I love this province. We have everything you could imagine for Scenery. Their are mountains (the highest in the country) valleys and gorges, deserts, rain forests, freshwater lakes and rivers. Pristine barely describes it.

I love this country too. I have seen it from coast to coast and have been as far north as Frobisher Bay (I think they call it Iqaluit now.) That's what it was called for thousands of years before the Europeans.

But the country is broken.

The fractures began slowly a long time  ago But with the Harper Cons it has accelerated at breakneck speed. And BC is feeling the brunt of the breakage.

When BC was sucked into Confederation:
Helmcken felt that B.C. was geographically too distant from the rest of Canada for proper communication with the east. B.C. would have little political influence, he argued, and would be subject to policy decisions made far away. This is still a concern of westerners today.

The final Terms of Union stated that Canada would "assume and defray the charges for" certain stated services, including "Protection and encouragement of fisheries." No attempt was made to define either Dominion or Provincial responsibility or jurisdiction, and fisheries questions have since been taken to the Privy Council at least twice.

http://commonsensecanadian.ca/canadians-get-lots-coal-oil-gas-holiday-trash-dump/

From Alexandra Mortons blog: The World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), our global first line of defence against farm animal epidemics, just stacked the odds against stopping ISA virus from spreading in British Columbia. They stripped the lab I am using to track ISA virus of its international certification.

290 conditions: But the panel has attached 209 conditions, which cover everything from protecting caribou habitat to research into how the oil would behave in a marine environment.

Enbridge said in a news release that it will "work toward" meeting the conditions. This blogger believes this statement to mean they might look at the conditions and study them to death but they have no intention of meeting them. They have already insulted the First Nations by failing to have "meaningful consultations".And believe me when I say that right now the natives are our last line of defense.

The Feds themselves said that Enbridge has a insufficient spill response plan. 2012 Postmedia

Yet Harper continues to defend them.

Rabble:  during this time, we have seen the federal majority Conservative government gut Canada’s environmental laws through omnibus bills and streamline the review process for future major resource projects all in what would appear to be an attempt to roll out these projects regardless of the risks and objections. Now we hear the feds want to cut $100 million from Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO).

And now Harper is dismantling the DFO further.  http://grist.org/news/canadas-energy-officials-take-over-job-of-protecting-fish-from-pipelines/

I allege that all of this  bullshit is part of a master plan. What it is I don't exactly know but I'm leaning toward the destruction of all the wild fish so the Salmon Farms can take over the fishery.

Sound crazy? Think about it. With no wild salmon the argument that the  pipeline and tankers will go out the window. The Salmon farmers will do what should have been done in the first place. Move on shore.

With pipelines breaking over our waterways (read spawning runs) and tankers rupturing in Douglas Channel the fish will be wiped out Birds and animals will die off and the mining companies like Teck can build their mines wherever and whenever they want and acidic tailings will further pollute the land and water.

The food chain will crumble and food will be out of reach for the poor and middle class.Only the rich will be able to afford to live. Why? Because they are the ones who paid off the politicians to get what they wanted and destroyed it all..

And the irony is that we let it happen. WE HAD THE VOTE! But we let  big business do their thing and pay to have the laws changed and rearranged to their liking. WE HAD THE VOTE. And we didn't use it properly. We let this happen. And right now in British Columbia we are paying the price. And we can't expect help from Ontario and Quebec. They hold the balance of power but I fear they don't have a clue what's happening out here.

So what's left? I believe that right now or at least before 2015 we should start proceedings toward Secession.before we hit the point of no return.

MP From Peterborough Hasn't Got A Clue

Dean Del Mastro has had a statement published on line regarding Neil Young's position on the TAR SANDS and published  at Bourque Newswatch

 http://www.bourque.com/delmastro2.html

After reading this drivel I can conclude that Del Mastro hasn't got a god damn clue what Niels' position. Further he is slamming a position that has nothing to do with what Mr. Youngs' concerts are about. In fact all this drivel sounds like what the rest of the cons are being fed by the PMO.

Every thing I have heard or read in the last few days by the cons and the TAR SANDS CEO's has been an attack on something that has nothing to do with why Neil is giving these concerts.

The money is to go to a legal defense fund for the First Nations in the area.

http://www.thetyee.ca/Blogs/TheHook/2014/01/14/Young-Vs-Oilsands/

Now, let me ask this question of the oil companies. HOW MUCH OF THOSE GOBS OF MONEY THA YOU ARE MAKING FROM THE OIL AND THE TAX SHELTERS ARE YOU GOING TO USE TO IMPROVE THE HEALTH OF THE PEOPLE AFFECTED DOWNSTREAM?

Or are you just going to keep hiding it offshore. You know, offshore... out of the country

Happy New Year 2014

This past year for me was basically wasted.

On the personal front as well as the political one.

For 2014 I plan to pull out all the stops on both fronts.

My personal life won't appear here but many are in for a big surprise.

On the political side my first post will set the pace and many here will certainly disagree with me. But the time has  come to set Harper and the political system on it's ass.

Here's hoping that all who read this, and in fact everyone, has a prosperous and fruitful new year in 2014.
