It's Time Seniors Got Off Their Butts And Fought Back

 Time we paid attention!

OAS & CPP - an entitlement? GREY POWER-- QUIET NO MORE

ONE REALLY BAD THING IS THAT A GREAT MANY SENIORS HAVE NO INTERNET TO RECEIVE
EMAILS LIKE THIS ONE, SO SNAIL MAIL AND TELEPHONE ARE ALSO NEEDED...

On top of all this stuff that you can read below I would like to state that I was NOT OPPOSED to the Canadian Government donating as a gift a blanket to Prince George BUT I do have a hard time understanding the government donating $100,000. to a children's charity in England while people in High River and seniors are struggling to stay a float. Doesn't make sense to me. Where  did the government come up with this money and WHY.

GREY POWER-- QUIET NO MORE -- POLITICIANS PAY ATTENTION!

The Harper government is saying that at this moment
they cannot afford to make changes to the CPP.

They are also saying that seniors will have to start paying for
meds and health care after age 65 because of the strain on the
system.

I think that it is time that we let him know what we think ........

CANADA: a country where we have:

…. homeless without shelter,
…. children going to bed hungry,
…. hospitals being closed,
…. average income families who can't afford dental care,
…. elderly going without 'needed' meds and having to travel
100's of miles for medical care with no reimbursement of cost,
…. vehicles we can't afford gas for,
…. lack of affordable housing,
…. mentally ill without treatment, etc.,etc.

YET....

They have a 'Benefit' for the people of Haiti, ships and planes
lining up with food, water, tents, clothes, bedding, doctors, and
medical supplies.

What’s wrong with us??? ……………. WAKE UP CANADA !!!!

Someone please tell me what the is wrong with all the people
that run this country!

We're "broke" & can't help our own Seniors, Veterans, Orphans,
Homeless, etc. …… yet we spent 1.2 billions of dollars for G-20
events!

In the last few months we have provided aid to Haiti , Chile ,
and Turkey , as well as Khazakistan , Pakistan and all the others -
literally, BILLIONS of OUR dollars!!

Imagine if the GOVERNMENT gave 'US' the same support they give
to other countries.

Our retired seniors living on a 'fixed income' receive no aid
nor do they get any breaks while our government and religious
organizations pour hundreds of millions of dollars and tons of food
into Foreign Countries!

They call Old Age Security and Healthcare an entitlement even
though most of us have been paying for it all our working lives and
now when IT'S time for us to collect, the government is running out
of money ?
Why did the government borrow from these programs in the first
place?

Entitlement ? I paid cash for my Old Age Security and CPP!!!!

Just because they borrowed money from these programs, doesn't
make my benefits some kind of charity or handout!

Gold plated MP pensions and Civil Service Government benefits,
a.k.a. free healthcare, outrageous retirement packages, 67 paid
holidays, 20 weeks paid vacation, unlimited paid sick days --- now
that's welfare, and they have the nerve to call me a 'greedy
senior' and my retirement, an entitlement.

Sad isn't it?

Lets hope it creates awareness!

DO YOUR PART!

Things will only change when this kind of email translates
into voting results at the polls.

As of today, seniors out number ANY OTHER type of voter even
by race, religion, or age group.

WHEN ARE SENIORS going wake up and understand WE have the
POWER to shape legislation?

All WE need is the will power to do so!

FORWARD THIS TO EVERYBODY !!! 99% of people won't have the
guts to forward this. I'm one of the 1% -- I Just Did.

I've committed to fighting the next election starting now by organizing a local event under the auspices of LeadNow.ca. I share your concerns, but from a slightly different point of view: I believe that it is our responsibility to help out in the wider world so I don't begrudge those expenditures, but the oil and gas subsidies, the pathetic corporate tax structure, boondoggles of all stripes, both government and corporate (often government funded), bloated expenditures for law enforcement, the military and the corrections systems and the absurd expenditures on sporting events and "historic" remembrances are among the areas worthy of scaling back. I am also fearful for the future we are leaving generations to come, not only in terms of corrupt and spendthrift government, but also in terms of air, water, and land unfit for human habitation, all part of the same piracy. Yes, seniors need to engage, quickly and forcefully, but we also need to assume the mantle of wisdom that should come with our years, the better to help the following generations peek behind the curtain of illusion that reigns in our society of illusory participation in a sham democracy. The problem will require solutions based on the good of, and participation of all generations. Thanks for the call to arms. It is well-placed.

Great comment Danneau.
We do differ slightly on the point of view. But I happen to be a senior that is fed up with all the bullshit studies and concensus going on.
I don't mind helping other countries in distress but only after we take care of our own. And as you know we are not taking care of our own.

We spent our lives paying taxes and unless we were rich enough to pay a good tax accountant we paid a fair share.

My idea is to cut off all the bullshit freebies to others, especially the big business tax dodgers, and immediately take that money and axe all the gouging taxes that we as seniors on fixed incomes are paying, and cut taxes to the bone for us.
Government never has a problem moving money around for special interests (read friends)and big business. Well, castrate them and give the breaks to those who actually voted for them and spent all their lives paying the taxes.
I'm going to go into the veterans problems later as I am a (peacetime) vet. Fortunately I don't need the same programs they do.
By the way this email was sent to me from an expat Canuck and his Ozzie lady all the way from Australia. It was the best written I have seen so I decided to publish it here.

I'm with you all the way. The fact is that, partly because of where I live, partly because of when I live, partly because of some decisions made by my antecedents, partly because of some decisions made by my current family, and partly because of some things I've done (all legal), our family is reasonably comfortable. Others in the family may not be so fortunate and we try to help out where we can. Get this: I would like to pay more taxes, but not to any of the scallywag administrations that funnel them into the accounts of oil barons, pharma plunderers, lobbyists, Pryessmen and venture capitalists (the list is not exhaustive). Charity is a sham that allows society as a whole, and governments in particular, to dodge their responsibilities and so it is difficult to make the contribution to those who need it without perpetuating the current scam. All Canadians should have an adequate minimum income with incentives to better that through some combination of work and creativity, but no one ought to have the kind of wealth on ostentatious display in various quarters of the world. This is, yes, a utopian vision, but it could be done if a majority of Canadians, at least, would wake up and start first to grumble loudly as a warning signal, then act, particularly in being willing to make some of the sacrifice that, for instance veterans (yes, peacetime vets as well) have made for the common good. So keep up the invective. It's a healthy sign.
