I Wonder If Harry Reid's Staff Takes Lessons From The BC PAB

No matter what side of the AISLE you're on, THIS is FUNNY and very telling!
It just all depends on how you look at some things...
Judy Wallman, a professional genealogy researcher in southern California , was doing some personal work on her own family tree.  She discovered that Congressman Harry Reid's great-great uncle Remus Reid, was hanged for horse stealing and train robbery in Montana in 1889.  Both Judy and Harry Reid share this common ancestor.

The only known photograph of Remus shows him standing on the gallows in Montana territory:

On the back of the picture Judy obtained during her research is this inscription: 'Remus Reid, horse thief, sent to Montana Territorial Prison 1885, escaped 1887, robbed the Montana Flyer six times. Caught by Pinkerton detectives, convicted and hanged in 1889.'

So Judy recently e-mailed Congressman Harry Reid for information about their great-great uncle.

Believe it or not, Harry Reid's staff sent back the following biographical sketch for her genealogy research:

"Remus Reid was a famous cowboy in the Montana Territory .
His business empire grew to include acquisition of valuable equestrian assets and intimate dealings with the Montana railroad.  Beginning in 1883, he devoted several years of his life to government service, finally taking leave to resume his dealings with the railroad.  In 1887, he was a key player in a vital investigation run by the renowned Pinkerton Detective Agency.  In 1889, Remus passed away during an important civic function held in his honor when the platform upon which he was standing collapsed."

NOW THAT's how it's done, Folks!

That's real POLITICAL SPIN

I can see the HIStory books now.
"Gordon Muir Campbell was a well respected developer in British Columbia. His business empire grew to include the former Public Assets he managed on behalf of the people of BC who entrusted him this legacy through 3 sequential terms of elected public office. He was a key player in ensuring labour peace and social justice. He died in the loving arms of a mob of his constituents after he inplemented the beloved tax reform we know as the HST. Survived by his wife(S) and children, by marriage and otherwise and his brother, who developed an unfortunate addiction after losing his corporate media job and was never seen again."

Actually, who am I kidding, that might well be the best scenario.
(no publication bans were injured during the making of this production!);)

Spreading untrue crap is the part of what we do in the blog world, unfortunately. Luckily we have snopes.com as a fact checker.

Someone, maybe Mark Twain, said "Never let the facts interfere with a good story."

Leah, I'm glad this helped to brighten your day.

Norman, you sound offended that I would post something intended to lighten up a situation that is hammering people into the ground. The PAB spin in this province in my opinion by far exceeds any "crap" I may post.
Maybe for your sake I should have preceded this with the fact that it came to me as a joke. But the intention here is in the bottom line "POLITICAL SPIN" From Leah's reaction and Kim's comment I see it helped two other people as well as myself. And that makes me Happy.

True. I didn't mean it that way and was not offended. Usually I appreciate humor and try to include pace changes at my site too. I worry though that, because regulars read so widely, it is easier to separate real from unreal. People less familiar with the web may get taken in.

An acquaintance, otherwise quite bright, recently sent me this story with Harry Reid as subject of the day. He thought it was real and forwarded it without a second thought.

I think many of the disinformation pieces are seeded by people who know full well they are untrue but aim to discredit all that is written on the web. Sort of like when Vaughn Palmer says that ALL bloggers are nincompoops.

Thanks for the clarification Norman. And from experience I think you are absolutely correct that people less familiar could be taken in. I was going to use the Bush version on this by the way. But in my haste just published this one. The comparison was just too close to what is happening today. But thanks for reminding me that there may be others who would think this is true. Next time I'll take the time to explain what I have done here.
